Technology Catches Up with Mother Nature

Avitec

Avitec is Arkion® Life Sciences' new product that will protect corn seed from damage by Sandhill Cranes. This product has been approved for emergency use in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan. The active ingredient is a naturally occurring substance that has been shown to repel birds. This repellent can be used as a corn seed treatment by farmers in areas where Sandhill Cranes have been damaging corn fields by eating corn seeds shortly after planting.

Airepel®

Airepel®, a subsidiary of Arkion® Life Sciences, focuses its resources on innovative bird management products and services. Our current product lines consist of products made from a naturally occurring compound called anthraquinone (AQ). Anthraquinone, or a version of it, is found in most plants as a part of the photosynthesis pathway. AQ acts as a sulfide and methane gas inhibitor in waste water and waste solids. The compound also is an effective EPA-approved bird repellent to deter geese in a humane way from parks, golf courses and grassy turf in general. Airepel® uses a very pure synthetic source of AQ for its current product line.

A number of proprietary applications have been developed using the unique properties of anthraquinone (AQ).

AVIPEL®

Airepel®'s Humane Bird Management Services Division uses Avipel® to serve its customer base. Avipel® is applied by qualified professionals to solve bird problems on roofs, ledges, and other roosting areas. It is a low cost alternative to other exclusion options. Airepel® serves the Biosecurity, Health Care, Building Maintenance, Marine and other markets to humanely prevent birds from roosting and damaging buildings and structures. Avipel® is patented in the US and many countries around the world. Used in conjunction with netting and spikes or by itself, Avipel® is a stable and ecofriendly way to protect buildings and people from the harmful effects of bird droppings. Application of Avipel® on ledges, roof structures and beams will make the surfaces unattractive for avian species listed on the label.

FLIGHT CONTROL® PLUS

FLIGHT CONTROL® PLUS is another patented formulation of AQ. Canada geese have become a major nuisance in North America and Flight Control® Plus humanely works to manage the birds without causing any harm. Flight Control® Plus is sprayed on turf to make the food source repellent to the geese.

HOW DO AVIPEL® AND FLIGHT CONTROL® PLUS WORK?

Birds feed on treated turf or preen the product from their feathers and experience a harmless, but effective intestinal reaction. Birds also can see the compound in the ultraviolet spectrum of light (which people cannot see). Birds become conditioned to avoid treated areas and find new feeding sites away from treated turf. The visual warning along with the mild intestinal reaction equals a threat with consequence.

SULF CONTROL®

Sulf Control® is a product that is used to safely and cost effectively inhibit the biological development of Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) in a variety of anaerobic wastewater environments. Sulf Control® blocks the specific formation of sulfide gas without killing or modifying bacteria. It is biodegradable and will not adversely affect aerobic processing of wastewater or solids.
